Why Paul is supporting Movember

I'm Paul Munro, Head of Fundraising at AFC Wimbledon Foundation, and as you can see, I’m growing a moustache this month to support two causes close to my heart: AFC Wimbledon Foundation and the Movember Foundation.

By doing this, I hope to raise awareness and funds for men’s health, wellness, and our community programmes that make a real difference.

AFC Wimbledon Foundation plays a vital role in serving the local community. From youth sports and education initiatives to health and social inclusion projects, we are dedicated to making a difference in Southwest London.

To continue our transformative work, we depend on donations from the community, businesses, and fans. Here’s why your donations are essential…

1. Sports Participation

The Foundation develops programmes that encourage children and teenagers to get active, learn new skills, and stay engaged with their community. Through football coaching sessions, after-school clubs, and holiday camps, young people gain access to safe environments where they can build confidence and foster friendships. Our programmes reach out to underprivileged or at-risk youth who may lack access to quality recreational activities. Donations make sure that all children have a chance to participate regardless of their financial background.

2. Education and Mentorship

The Foundation isn’t just about football; we provide educational and mentorship programmes designed to support young people’s academic and personal development. Working closely with local schools, we offer literacy and numeracy programmes that make learning fun and accessible. These programmes often incorporate elements of sports to engage students who may otherwise struggle academically or socially. In addition, mentoring initiatives connect young people with positive role models, offering them guidance in overcoming challenges and setting goals for the future. Donations ensure these programmes can continue to operate, reach more young people, and provide necessary resources.

3. Health and Wellbeing Initiatives

Health and wellness are central to our mission. We run programmes that encourage physical activity among people of all ages, including older adults and individuals with disabilities. “Walking Football” and “Active Ageing” sessions help older residents stay active and socially connected. Funding is essential to cover costs associated with specialist coaches and equipment. With more donations, we can expand our health initiatives and offer more sessions to benefit the community’s overall wellbeing.

4. Social Inclusion

The Foundation’s social inclusion programmes work to bring people together from different backgrounds, fostering unity and understanding in the community. Through outreach efforts, we connect with refugees, low-income families, and individuals at risk of social exclusion. Initiatives such as “Kicks” provide safe spaces where individuals can come together, share experiences, and feel supported. Donations play a crucial role in sustaining and expanding these initiatives, allowing the Foundation to make a broader and more profound impact on social cohesion in Southwest London.

5. Long-Term Impact and Sustainability

AFC Wimbledon Foundation is more than just a charity tied to our brilliant football club; we are a pillar of support, growth, and positive change. Donations are essential for our long-term impact and sustainability. They allow us to plan for the future and adapt to our community’s changing needs.

Make a donation today and you can make a lasting difference in our community.
