Wombles Walk to Watch a Wimbledon Win
On Saturday morning, a group of 75 fundraisers undertook the Wombles Walk, to raise money for AFC Wimbledon Foundation’s work in the community.
The scenic journey began at 11am in the sunshine on Wimbledon Common, where the walkers were greeted by Haydon the Womble. The group set off through the woods towards The Windmill an down to Wimbledon Park, enjoying views of The All England Club on the route.
In Wimbledon Park, the walkers had some well earned refreshments and enjoyed the last few games of the Wombles Cup, which was a charity football tournament for our Football for All participants.
Some of the young players and their parents joined the parade, heading up the hill into Wimbledon Village, before descending into Wimbledon, turning heads and raising awareness as they went.
As they approached the stadium, the walkers were in full voice singing songs with other Wimbledon fans on their way to the Cherry Red Records Stadium.
Upon reaching the finish line at Plough Lane, the walkers received their finishers medals and headed into the stadium to enjoy an Ali Al-Hamadi hattrick and a thumping home win!
